Established in 2014, Global House of Music (GHM) has provided quality private music lessons, for over six years. Our teachers travel to clients, a highly popular ‘we come to you’ service which means that students play the instruments on which they practice. We started as a small individually run business employing and contracting teachers in and around South Africa. We have established relationships with universities such as WITS to become a feeding school for new teachers in 2019.
Our dynamic, highly qualified, talented staff conduct more than 600 lessons per month. Many of our teachers perform in orchestras and continue to study music.
Each teacher tailors their teaching to the progress of their students. The end goal for the music lessons remains the same – to complete music grades and music examinations. Any student taking any form of music lessons must be measured at international standards. Our primary focus is the progress of every student, ticking the right boxes, this has lead to the introduction of Music Milestones.
Our group of teachers consist of well known, hardworking and professional musicians and teachers from all around the world. Teachers are screened and only accepted if they have either a BMus or equivalent qualification in music.
We offer piano, guitar, vocals, violin, cello, double bass, oboe, flute, saxophone, clarinet and bass guitar lessons. Our teachers travel to you for the lessons which allows a student to be prepared on the instrument that they practice on. This allows them to learn in a comfortable environment and practice on the instrument they had a lesson on.
Students participate in competitions and performances throughout the year and work hard to complete musical grades through The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity College (both based in London), Rock School and UNISA. Students are personally prepared for theory and practical exams. In 2019 our students achieved an impressive 90% pass rate. Many of our students have gone on to study music locally and internationally at institutions such as WITS, UCT and Berkeley School of Music.
We accommodate students from the age of 4 for piano and music appreciation lessons which consists of counting, drawing notes, understanding note values and learning piano with a carefully selected syllabus.
For our older students (age 9 and up) we focus on preparing them for music examinations, competitions and National Eisteddfod. These lessons consist of preparing the required pieces for examinations, sight reading, aural test, scales and technique. Students are given brief insights into the history of the instrument they choose as well as the history of the composers.
